Happy Halloween!

This year Josie insisted on being Velma from Scooby Doo - there was no changing her mind. She even wanted the rest of us to dress as other SD characters, but I drew the line when she suggested that Ada go as a Scooby snack! So we compromised and Ben went as Shaggy, and I dressed as a flower to go with Ada's bee costume. Look at an earlier post to see the entire Velma costume complete with glasses (she decided that Velma didn't need the glasses for the lawn)!

Ready for the All Saint's Fair

Last weekend, we went to the All Saint's Fair at our church. Josie had a fun time playing games and eating candy (especially eating candy, but the games had to be played to get the candy!).

Not the Only Velma

Josie was not the only Velma - friends at the All Saint's Fair dressed as Scooby characters and a Velma and Shaggy were spotted on the lawn as well!

Happy 1st Birthday Ada!

Ada turned one on October 18th and we had a fun day full of Ada's favorites: balloons, balls, family, and (a new favorite) pumpkin spice cake! She's come a long way in a year - she's now an expert crawler, she pulls up and has taken a few first steps (holding onto something) and she has many first words (ball, bath, and balloon are at the top of the list, she seems to like "b" words). Her first phrase is "whatiszat?" (i.e. "what is that?") and is ecstatic about learning the names of things...she especially delights in pointing out the smoke detector in her room (who knows why!) and the balloons from her birthday. She has been pointing at things for a month now and enjoys pointing to communicate what she wants to eat or what she wants to do (i.e. Ada points at her rocker, wanting me to sit down, and then points at her books, wanting me to read her a book). She also has become the pro at clapping, waving, sticking out her tongue, and dancing (she's quite the head-banger). She is a sweet baby and we are blessed to have her in our lives.

Pumpkin Cake

Ada was a bit shy when the birthday singing began, but quickly got over it to enjoy her first (and then second!) piece of pumpkin spice birthday cake. She loved it.

Don't Eat the Gifts!

Ada enjoyed tasting her gifts! She did a good job of attempting to open them (if we could keep Josie from opening them first!).

A Leaf for Ada

We concluded Ada's birthday with a walk around the neighborhood through the leaves and to the playground. Ada enjoyed a leaf given to her by her granddaddy (she hung onto it for the entire walk!).

Some Pirates Come to Visit

ECU's biggest fans (i.e. my aunt & uncle) came to visit and sadly (for them) were defeated by the Cavaliers - go Wahoos! (I'm sure that they were thrilled with the opportunity to learn the good ol' song!)

Josie's First Day of School (and Ada's first pancake)!

In the beginning of September, Josie started her first year of preschool - here's a couple shots of her all ready for her first day of school. The third picture is of Ada eating her first pumpkin pancake (she ate two!).

Birthday Visit

We surprised Nana on her birthday (back in September) by driving up to see her for the day. We had a great time visiting (and Ada had a great time exploring their house)!

Beach Days (are long gone...)

Summer days are come and gone, but I had to post a few from our end of the summer beach trip. You will notice below a few unusual things - yes, Josie is not only in the sand (and is [gasp!] sandy), but she also finally braved the water! She loved it. Ada as well, took right to the water, like a little fish (or sand crab).
